(6 Apr 2019) Iraq’s Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi visited Tehran for talks with Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani on Saturday, marking a further deepening of ties between the two countries.
At a joint news conference, Rouhani said Iran and Iraq had a common stance on key Middle Eastern issues such as Jerusalem, the Golan Heights and the civil war in Yemen.
He added that the two countries “agreed upon the necessity of peace and stability in the entire region.”
Abdul-Mahdi echoed Rouhani’s comments, adding that economic and security cooperation were also discussed in their meeting.
Abdul-Mahdi’s visit to Tehran followed Rouhani’s trip to Baghdad less than a month ago.
